Description
Calm, quiet dedicated persons needed to work at shelter handling dogs and cats and occasional other animals. Dog walking, training, grooming, and cat care. This position also includes a lot of cleaning - kennels & cages must be wiped down or mopped, waste cleaned up. Most work is done at 5 pm Mon-Fri, plus closing times at 9 pm, 7 days a week. Other shifts are also available for experienced volunteers.
Skills
Dog handling: Able to confidently work around dogs, understand dog behavior, familiar with positive dog training and correction techniques; or willing to learn.Communication /Interpersonal skills: Although we are an animal shelter, we must work with people too! Volunteers work together in small groups and must be able to work smoothly together in order to accomplish tasks and to keep a calm environment for our dogs and cats. Volunteers must be able & willing to use a record keeping log.Cleaning: We do a lot of cleaning in order to reduce odors and reduce risk of passing on viruses, parasites and other pathogens. Volunteers must be able to follow procedures and be willing to roll up their sleeves and work in messy areas.
