On Saturday, September 25th, thousands of volunteers will clean up Oregon’s beaches from the California border to the Columbia River – and also work along rivers, creeks, lakes and other waterways throughout Oregon and SW Washington - improving the quality of water that we all use for drinking, recreation, agriculture and more. This is the first year that SOLV has expanded our popular fall beach cleanup to include inland projects. Much of what volunteers collect at the beach is carried there by rivers, streams, and storm drains (data collected from the 2009 cleanup tells us that 60 – 80% of ocean trash originates from inland sources). Volunteers will take local action to address the global problems of marine debris and degraded water quality by cleaning up neighborhoods and waterways and removing invasive plants throughout Oregon. Most projects run from 10 am to 1 pm.
